Fentanyl belongs to the group of opioids, and transdermal fentanyl with its efficient fentanyl drug utilization, has been shown to have fewer side effects compared to morphine tablets and other oral formulations of opiod analgesics.

The transdermal fentanyl patch is a 72 hour fentanyl treatment for patients with severe pain. The fentanyl drug load is less than in other products, adding to a high degree of safety and low environmental burden.
